ABOUT THE HOWARD D. TROTMAN NET PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Howard D. Trotman NET Patient Assistance Program was created to address the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis on those living in Canada with neuroendocrine cancer. The program offers a grant of up to $3,000 per family that needs financial assistance with respect to travel for appointments, assessment and a percentage of treatment costs not covered by insurance or compassionate programs. The program was founded by Sue Folinsbee, Howard’s wife, in partnership with the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (CNETS) to provide financial assistance to neuroendocrine patients who need this support. The intention of the fund is to make a real difference in the lives of patients who request funding.
The Program was developed in honour and loving memory of Howard Trotman, who passed away from neuroendocrine cancer in February 2024. Howard Dennis Trotman was a kind, generous, and knowledgeable man who loved life and lived it fully despite his illness. As the Support Group Leader for the CNETS Toronto Patient Support Group, Howard was an inspirational role model for other neuroendocrine cancer patients. Beyond Howard’s gift as a Support Group Leader, he spent a lifetime giving back to society through service on the board of directors of various organizations. Above all, Howard was committed to supporting and mentoring others. The Howard D. Trotman NET Patient Assistance Program embodies Howard’s passion and care for this community and humankind.
The Program will run on an annual basis, with financial assistance granted to those who are eligible on a first-come, first-served basis. We will ask applicants to pursue and exhaust existing compassionate and reimbursement programs before applying to this one. As a modest program, we hope that it will enhance the support needed by patients.
